A former bodybuilder who turned to powerlifting is celebrating after returning to his Caerphilly home with a European bronze medal.

Dylan Davies won bronze in the -120kg deadlift competition for Britain at the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) European Masters in Pilsen, Czech Republic, which were held between July 11 and July 15.

The 46-year-old, who trains out of Power Athletics gym in Caerphilly, totalled a 700kg overall lift weight, after finishing sixth in the squat with 260kg, sixth in the bench press with 177.5kg, and third in the deadlift with 252.5kg.

Dylan, a council worker, said: “It means everything to win the bronze medal.

“I just squeezed into third in the deadlift, so I’m happy to come away with a medal. I just want to get better, stronger, and increase my medal count.

“This is only my second year of international competitions, and hopefully within the next year or two I can start winning World Masters titles. That would be nice.”
