A “thriving” cricket club in Cefn Fforest has been given a cash boost by housebuilder Persimmon Homes.

Members of Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer Cricket Club are celebrating after receiving a £750 donation from Persimmon Homes East Wales, as part of its Healthy Communities scheme supporting sportspeople under the age of 21.

Anthony O’Connor, of the cricket club, said: “We are a thriving club with a number of enthusiastic and talented youngsters.

“We have to work hard to cover our overheads, so donations like these from Persimmon are a huge boost.

“At the moment we are fundraising to update our changing facilities and purchase new storage containers and mowers.

“This money will go towards that.”

Victoria Williams, sales director for Persimmon Homes East Wales, added: “Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer Cricket Club is an extremely successful club which is helping people of all ages to keep fit and have fun.

“We’re more than happy to support them with this donation.”
