A Caerphilly racing driver has claimed top spot in the 2017 Welsh Sprint and Hill Climb Championship.

Martyn Ferris, from Caerphilly, finished top of the pile after 24 stages across Wales and the surrounding areas.

Racing at 3B class in a classic Renault 5 GT Turbo, which he built himself, Martyn competed at tracks from Castle Combe to Pembrey, Llandow, and Prescott Hill Climb between March and October of this year.

Previously, his best result has been third overall, but a number of impressive stage wins saw him clinch the 2017 title.

Martyn said: “I’m lucky enough to have two local sponsors, Jem Interiors and Ignite Heating, from Bedwas. I’d like to thank them for their help over the last couple of seasons.”
