WRU hub officer praised by Bedwas RFC

WRU Hub Officer Jon Hughes, who is based at Bedwas High School, has been praised by Bedwas RFC for developing its mini and juniors section.

Recent successes at the school have included giving every child in Years 7 to 11 opportunities to participate in rugby, including entering a sevens team in the Urdu sevens tournament, working on a primary schools rugby programme and seeing some of his pupils earn representative honours with the Dragons, Rhymney Valleys Schools and Welsh Academicals.

Hughes has also been able to get pupils involved with club rugby at Bedwas RFC and Machen RFC. He plans to help more young people achieve representative honours and getting a more competitive edge into the school teams.

Bedwas RFC Director Will Rees said: “Jon has done a fantastic job. We are grateful for the work he does ensuring that there’s a pathway between school and clubs in the area.”
