On Wednesday, August 22, a select team from the Junior Section of Blackwood Town Cricket Club hosted a match against the Youth Team of Ahmedabad Basu Cricket Club from the state of Gujarat in India.

This was the first match of the team’s 12 day tour and they played teams in Wales before leaving for a sightseeing tour of London.

Although the players had landed in Heathrow at 1am that morning and travelled straight to Wales to play the match.
It obviously did not affect their performance on the field.

The Blackwood XI reached a total of 107 in their 25 overs with Dan Thomas top scoring with 21 runs. In reply Ahmedabad reached the target for the loss of 3 wickets. This was in spite of some fine bowling from the Blackwood players. It was a memorable occasion for the players and the Club and played in the real “spirit of the game”.
During the tea interval the players and officials were treated to an excellent Indian buffet that was prepared and served by the Blackwood C.C. Ladies’ Section.

The match balls were kindly provided by Mr A.Parry IWM Ltd.

A plaque was given to Mr W. Coppage, President of BTCC, by the Ahmedabad officials and in return they were presented with a BTCC tie. It is now hoped that this wonderful occasion can be repeated on annual basis.
