Abertridwr kickboxing and karate club has success at world championships

A kickboxing and karate group has enjoyed success at a recent world championships.

Fighting Dragons Karate and Kickboxing, based in Abertridwr, had eight fighters aged between eight and 18 representing Wales at the World United Martial Arts World Championships, which took place in Worcester on the weekend of October 5 to October 7.

The contest saw four of the group’s fighters walk away with world titles – a fantastic achievement.

The full results were: Garin Davies – Gold in Kumite (freestyle fighting); Dylan Bishop – Silver Light Contact; Ieuian Halls – Gold Kumite; Keiran Halls – Bronze Kumite; Malakai Gough – Gold Kumite and Bronze Light Contact; Millie Dykes – Bronze Kumite; Kaylam Bailey Gold Kumite and Silver Light Contact and Bronze Points; Jayden Bailey – Silver Kumite.

Nathan Bishop, from Fighting Dragons, said: “It has been a long arduous road over the last year with fundraising, planning and preparation which would not have been possible without the help of different companies. We would like to thank Tesco, Morrisons and Delyn Packaging Ltd as well as all individuals whose donations have made this possible.”

• If you would like to join, Fighting Dragons Karate and Kickboxing train every Monday to Thursday between 5pm and 7pm and every Friday between 6pm and 7pm at the Dragons Den Fitness Centre, 57b Thomas Street, Abertridwr.
