Exactly one year since the UK entered is first coronavirus lockdown, buildings across Caerphilly County Borough will be lit up yellow to commemorate those who have been lost to the virus.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 5,488 people have died in Wales with coronavirus, with 126,172 deaths across the UK.

Blackwood Miners’ Institute, Caerphilly Visitors’ Centre, Caerphilly Castle and Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr will be among the buildings being lit up across Wales on Tuesday evening (March 23).

Covid in Caerphilly – one year since the first case

It will coincide with a ‘Day of Reflection‘ being organised by charity Marie Curie, which will include a minute silence at 8pm, with people encouraged to shine a light outside their homes or through their windows.

A minute silence was also be held at midday on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a national commemoration will be broadcast from 5.15pm on BBC One Wales and S4C to mark the one-year anniversary of the first national lockdown.
