More than 40 employees from Stagecoach in South Wales have been named the winners of Star of the Month, designed to recognise its shining stars and the employees who have delivered above and beyond.

Rosa Williams, Stagecoach in South Wales Marketing Manager nominated the two teams from Aberdare and Merthyr depots under the key area ‘health and wellbeing’ after they started an initiative to boost employee morale and improve mental and physical health.

Every month Stagecoach employees can nominate Stars across the business

Awards recognise excellence over key areas including service to customers, safety, health and wellbeing, environment, community and innovation

Alud Spiller, Driver and Health and Wellbeing Representative at Aberdare depot and Nathan Davies Driver and Health and Wellbeing Representative at Merthyr depot challenged employees to walk the distance from Lands’ End to John O’Groats and back during the month of February. Employees could walk, run or cycle, record their mileage via Strava or any fitness app and the combined mileage helped them to reach their goal and cover the distance – over 800 miles.

Over 40 employees took part across both depots, taking both teams a few weeks to get to John O’Groats and return back home. Although they weren’t able to exercise together, mentally they were together every step of the way and they shared their team spirit, weight loss or improved moods across the Stagecoach Intranet to inspire others.

Nigel Winter, Managing Director for Stagecoach in South Wales met both teams to award certificates and £200 shopping vouchers. The winners have planned to buy children’s books and crayons to donate to local children’s charities.

Nigel Winter said: “We couldn’t be more proud of what these teams have achieved. They selflessly arranged this challenge to help improve employee mental and physical health after a very difficult period.

“This challenge brought staff together and they all worked together as a team. We applaud everyone that took part and look forward to more staff getting involved in the next challenge, to walk around the coastline of Britain”.
