Labour’s Hefin David has been re-elected as Caerphilly’s Senedd Member.

Dr David, who was first elected in 2016, polled 13,289 votes, while Plaid Cymru’s Delyth Jewell came second with 8,211.

The Welsh Conservative’s Steven Mayfield came third with 5,013

Turnout for the constituency vote was 44.1% with 29,090 out of 65,958 registered voters.

Asked what his first job will be on Monday morning, Dr David said: “My first job is to represent every single person of the Caerphilly constituency regardless of how they voted – I’m here to help everyone.

“We picked up a whole load of issues throughout the constituency and that’s what I intend to deal with. We talked about connecting communities, better bus and rail links – that’s key, improving our town centres and getting ourselves out of this pandemic.”
