An 19-year-old from Abertridwr has been chosen to represent Great Britain at an international shooting competition in Germany later this month.

Callum Jones is one of three competitors representing Great Britain at the World Tour Target Sprint German Open.

The competition, which is run by the International Shooting Sport Federation, will be held between July 30 and August 1 in Dingolfing, near Munich.

It was originally meant to be held last summer but was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Callum competes in the Target Sprint discipline, which is fast-paced and combines running with target shooting.

Throughout the pandemic, Callum has had to fit his training regime around coronavirus restrictions.

A qualified plumber, Callum will be joining the Royal Marines in November for nine months, having passed his medical examinations during the pandemic.

Since January, he was worked full time for Frog Bikes, a children’s bike manufacturer based in Pontypool.

His parents, Jayne and Jason, said they were “very proud” of Callum and described him as a “very determined chap”.

Jayne added: “Frog Bikes have been really supportive towards his selection for this competition and have given him the time off for the trip, which we’re all really grateful for.”

The competitors will have to isolate for ten days upon their arrival back in the UK due to coronavirus rules.
