New play area could be built in Pwllypant

The children of Pwllypant are set to have a new play area built on a patch of council-owned land.

Llanbradach and Pwllypant Community Council has submitted a planning application to Caerphilly County Borough Council for a new basket swing, a slide and a climbing frame.

The application, for land on Central Street, states that residents are “very much in support” of such a park, which will also include benches and a variety of flowers and trees.

Ward councillor for Llanbradach, Colin Mann, said: “Pwllypant has been without a play area for around 20 years so this will provide something nice for the children.”

The site has been cleared in preparation, and is part of the community council’s environmental plan to develop the area.

Adrian Stone, a community councillor for Pwllypant, said the play equipment would be provided by the county borough council.

Opposite the proposed park is a triangle of grass where flowers, apple trees and pear trees are to be planted and benches are to be placed.

Cllr Stone described this particular area as a place for “mindfulness”.

The application for the play area is expected to be decided by early June this year.
