A family has been left with “no possessions” after a fire at their home in Bargoed.

Emergency services attended after the fire on Gilfach Street, which was reported in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The house was home to three children and two adults according to family friend Courtney Matthews.

In a statement, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “At approximately 4:44am on Sunday July 24, we received reports of a domestic fire on Gilfach Street in Bargoed.

“Multiple crews from Fire and Rescue Stations across South Wales attended the scene alongside emergency service colleagues.

“Crews used specialist equipment to extinguish the fire, including hose reel jets and triple extension ladders.

According to a family friend, large parts of the house were on fire as possessions were lost

“Members of the public were urged to avoid the area as a safety precaution.”

A stop message was received at around 8.46am.

Following a fire investigation, the blaze was deemed accidental.

A friend of the family has since set up a GoFundMe to help replace some of the items lost in the fire.
