Caerphilly town is looking to retain its title as the Wales in Bloom judging gets underway.

Last year, Caerphilly town clinched first place in the city and town centre category  – pipping Penarth to top spot.

Funded by Caerphilly Town Council and run by the Caerphilly in Bloom group, the competition sees the town centre decorated with plant troughs and hanging baskets during the summer months.

Judging gets underway on Tuesday, July 24.

Included in the entry are displays at Caerphilly Railway Station, Dafydd Williams Park, Coffi Vista and the Caerphilly Miners’ Centre.

Elsewhere in the borough, Ystrad Mynach has entered the small town category, with the entry funded by Gelligaer Community Council.

Meanwhile, the Friends of Morgan Jones Park Community Allotments has entered into the ‘Allotments up to ten plots’ category and is also being judged. The group is also being assessed for the ‘It’s your Neighbourhood’ category.

Also being assessed in this category are the St Martin’s Green Gardening Group and St Andrew’s Community Garden in Penyrheol.
