A 59-year-old woman who died in a car crash near Crumlin has been named by police as Paula Richards, from Newport.

The crash, which involved two cars and a lorry, happened along the A467 between Crumlin and Aberbeeg at around 1.20pm on Friday, January 13.

Ms Richards was driving a black Ford Ka, with the crash also involving a blue Citroen C1.

She was taken to hospital where she later died.

Her family have been receiving support from specialist officers and released the following tribute:

“Paula was the daughter of Joan and Colin Richards and older sister to her two brothers David and Philip.

“She was a loving member of the family, who was always looking for ways to help those around her.

“It will take time to begin to cope with this terrible accident and we know all around us will share our sadness.”

Officers from Gwent Police attended the crash, alongside the Welsh Ambulance Service, Welsh Air Ambulance Service and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

Gwent Police is investigating the incident and has appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Police have also appealed for anyone with dashcam footage who was on the A467 between 1pm and 2pm to get in touch.

Police can be contacted on 101, or through direct message on Facebook or Twitter, quoting reference 2300012861.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Ms Richards’ death came after the first of two fatal crashes in the Crumlin area over the weekend, with a 28-year-old woman killed in a crash in the early hours of Saturday morning along the A472.
