Markham’s Gerwyn Price clinched victory on Welsh soil last night, defeating Nathan Aspinall in the final of Premier League Darts Night Two.

Cheered on by a sell-out crowd at the Cardiff International Arena on Thursday February 9, Price wore the red of Wales as he won the £10,000 prize.

Price, 37, opened the evening with a 6-5 win over Chris Dobey before beating world number three Michael van Gerwen 6-5 to secure his place in the final.

Awaiting Price was Aspinall, who had knocked him out at the quarter-final stage in last week’s Premier League Darts in Belfast.

A sluggish start from his opponent saw Price go 2-0 up, but Aspinall responded with a two-dart 72 combination to halve the deficit.

But Price pushed on, restoring his two-leg lead with a 12-darter, before posting back-to-back 13 dart holds to go 5-2 up and within a leg of victory.

A 157 finish nearly sealed the win for Price, but Aspinall sank double two to keep his hopes alive.

But it wasn’t enough for Aspinall as Price responded by pinning his favourite tops to clinch a famous win.

“Honestly I loved every minute of it. I’m soaking it all up,” said an emotional Price, who is now level on five points alongside Dobey, Van Gerwen and Aspinall.

“I’m lost for words. I don’t get this reception very often, so I appreciate every bit of support. It was fantastic.

“How did I win against Michael [van Gerwen]? Michael outplayed me, but I’ve lost games like that before.

“The crowd got me over the line tonight. I’m not in the best of form. I was playing well before I was ill at the Masters and then I started feeling sorry for myself.

“I’m still not 100%, but I felt better tonight, and hopefully over the next couple of weeks I will get my form back.”

The Premier League moves to Glasgow for Night Three on Thursday February 16, with Price taking on reigning world champion Michael Smith.
