Trethomas Bluebirds will face Manchester United in a charity legends match this summer

This summer, Trethomas Bluebirds will play host to one of the biggest clubs in world football in Manchester United.

On Saturday June 24, the likes of Wes Brown and Peter Beardsley will dust off their boots to play against the Bluebirds in a charity legends match, with the money going towards the Parish Trust food bank.

Trethomas Bluebirds chairman David Evans said: “We can’t believe little old Trethomas is going to be hosting this game.

“We’ve had former Manchester United player and Cardiff City legend Derek Brazil helping us arrange it and he’s somehow pulled it off.”

The Manchester United legends will be managed by former-Red Devil David May and will feature players such as Nick Culken, Danny Simpson, Chris Eagles and Chris Casper.

They will face a Trethomas legends side at the Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach.

Trethomas coach Mark Dunford is also looking forward to the match: “It’s going to be a fantastic event for the club.

“We’ve been trying to boost the profile of the club for a few years now and I think a few of our cup runs have put us on the map but this will be great for the area.”

Trethomas Bluebirds defeated Llandrindod Wells FC 4-3 in the semi-final of the FA Wales Amateur Trophy two weeks ago to set up a final against Denbigh Town on Saturday April 29.

Mark continued: “We haven’t picked a squad yet but it’ll be an honour and a privilege to play in front of these players for whoever is selected.

“We’re hoping for a good turnout at the stadium, but my focus for now is on the rest of the season.”

Tickets are now on sale for the match, which will kick off at 3pm.

Evening entertainment will be provided at Bedwas Workmen’s Hall, where members of the public will have the chance to sit and speak with some of the United legends.
