Caerphilly Dragons FC after gaining promotion to division one of the South Wales Women’s and Girls League on Sunday

Caerphilly Dragons Girls FC Under-14s have cruised into division one of the South Wales Women’s and Girls’ League with three games to spare after a 3-0 win over Treowen.

The all-girls club has quickly become one of the largest in Wales, now boasting around 300 members since its formation just four years ago.

In that time, the club has been visited by Wales women’s national team players at the club’s base at St Martin’s School.

U14s coach Wayne Lewis spoke to Caerphilly Observer about the season: “It’s been difficult but also really good.

“We’re a great side and have gone the whole season undefeated. I’ll be honest it’s been hard to motivate the girls because we’ve often won quite comfortably.

“Treowen always give us a good game however and the guard of honour was a nice touch. We can’t wait for division one next season.”

Congratulations to our U14s

A 3-0 win against 2nd place @TreowenF clinches the @swwgl u14s Division 2 League Title!

Fantastic performance girls throughout the season!

Well done to all players, coaches and parents. Awesome work! pic.twitter.com/2jlzlFPNoa

Caerphilly Dragons have multiple sides starting at U5s through to U15s. They hope to have a senior side soon if things keep progressing.

Wayne added: “From the U14s point of view, we have a full quad of 19 players and a waiting list. It’s easy to recruit when you’re having success and we’re doing really well.

“A few weeks ago we beat a very good Cardiff Wanderers side to reach the cup final on May 7.”
