Work is set to start on Caerphilly town’s new leisure centre.
The new leisure centre, which is to be built near Caerphilly Business Park, is estimated to cost £33.6 million and will replace the exiting leisure centre at Virginia Park. It will include a new gym and swimming pool.
Caerphilly County Borough Council received £20m of the project’s costs from the UK Government’s Levelling Up fund.
Work is set to begin on June 5 and will include contractors clearing the land to prepare for survey works, which will last a week.
The site will be cleared and site investigation work will help to establish the type of material the centre will be built on, so foundations and drainage can be designed.
An ecologist will be on-site to ensure no harm comes to any wildlife.
Following this, specialist equipment will be used to take samples from the site in the area in mid to late June.
Caerphilly County Borough Council has been previously been criticised for not investing more in the north of the borough.
In response, the council has said it is “committed to regenerating communities across the county borough”.
