A footbridge at Caerphilly railway station has been closed due to safety concerns.

The bridge, which goes over the railway line, was looked at on Monday July 3 as part of a routine inspection.

It was discovered that a number of steps were moving or rocking when stepped on.

In a statement, Caerphilly County Borough Council said: “In the interests of public safety, we have closed the footbridge immediately to prevent exposing members of the public to a possible trip and or fall hazard until the defect can be further investigated.

“Pedestrians wishing to cross the railway at this location will be able to either utilise either the adjacent platform footbridge or follow the existing footways over Cardiff Road Rail bridge.

“Thank you for your patience whilst we resolve this issue.
