GCSE Results Day at Newbridge Comprehensive School
Last year’s GCSE Results Day at Newbridge Comprehensive School

This week, GCSE students across Wales will receive their exam results.

This summer marked the second time summer exams were sat since the Covid-19 pandemic, with pupils finding out their grades on Thursday August 24.

In both 2020 and 2021, grades were awarded based on teacher predictions as the pandemic disrupted the education system.

Last year, around a quarter of all grades issued were grade A or above – a slight decrease on 2021 – while 68.6% were C or above, and 97.3% graded G or above.

In total, there were 311,072 grades issued, which was less than 2022 but higher than in 2019.

Meanwhile, 97% of those who sat the National/Foundation Skills Challenge Certificate achieved the qualification, 17.6% of which achieved A* or A grades, while 84.4% achieved a C grade or above.

Last week, A-Level pupils across the country received their grades.
