Gwent Police are appealing for information after one of their cars was damaged in Rhymney earlier this month.

According to Gwent Police, a man allegedly damaged the two back tyres of a police vehicle while it was parked near the corner of Maes-yr-Haf and Hafod-y-Mynydd at around 8.40am on September 9.

In a statement, the force said: “Officers would like to speak to a man who they believe might be able to help with the investigation. He is described as being white, of stocky build, with a large tattoo on his right calf muscle.

“He was wearing a black jacket with the hood up, black shorts and black trainers.”

Chief Inspector Paul Biggs said: “This mindless act of vandalism means that one of our service vehicles was out of action for a short time, affecting our ability to respond to emergency calls.

“Away from the impact on our ability to respond to crime, all our vehicles that are damaged need to be repaired.

“As a public resource, it is the taxpayer who has had to assist with repairs linked to this report of criminal damage.”

This comes after a spate of anti-social behaviour in the town, which prompted local politicians and the police to promise that there would be a “robust” response to ensure residents have a “better quality of life”.
