Rhymey Library has been given a “tentative” reopening date after months of delays.

The library, which has undergone a £400,000 refurbishment was originally set to open in the summer of 2023 but has been plagued by ongoing problems.

First, news came that the reopening was delayed until September to ensure the “best service offer” for residents.

Then, in August the roof was damaged and the building was vandalised – causing the reopening to be pushed back until the incidents stopped.

Caerphilly Observer also understands the delay was also caused by problems with the lift in the building.

Now, a prospective reopening date of January 7 has been announced.

Speaking at the full council meeting on November 29, Cllr Carol Andrews confirmed the provisional date and added: “The hub offer will address the council’s intention to support access to a range of different services close to where people live, help to foster other community activities, and maintain library services in local areas.”
