Building work on a new 60-home development has been completed.

The new Ton y Felin development in Croespenmaen, near Crumlin, has been built by housing association Pobl.

The affordable housing development, built on a greenfield site, includes one-bedroom apartments and two- and three-bedroom homes.

Planning permission was granted by Caerphilly County Borough Council in October 2020, despite concerns about the potential increase in traffic from the development.

The homes were built using timber frame structures provided by Celtic Offsite, a social enterprise within the Caerphilly-based United Welsh Group.

Celtic Offsite also produced the fitted insulation for the structures at its factory on Pontygwindy Industrial Estate, Caerphilly. Construction of the homes was then completed on site by contractor M&J Cosgrove.

Neil Robins, managing director of Celtic Offsite, said the development “brings more affordable, energy-efficient housing to an area of Caerphilly where demand for new homes is high”.

James Watkins, project manager at Pobl, said the housing association is “committed to reducing the carbon emissions that go into constructing our new homes, as well as the carbon emissions associated with the running of our homes”.
