7,000 people visited Caerphilly for this year’s food and drink festival

This year’s Caerphilly Food and Drink Festival drew more than 7,000 visitors to the town centre when it was held on Saturday April 18 – the busiest day in the town so far this year.

More than 80 stalls, selling a range of food, drink, and crafts were set up in Caerphilly town centre, with cookery demonstrations, children’s funfair rides, and street entertainment also at the event.

It was organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council and supported by Caerphilly Town Council.

It followed on from The Big Welsh Festival in Blackwood, Bargoed Spring Fair, and Ystrad Mynach Food, Drink, and Music Festival – which have drawn a combined 11,000 visitors to town centres this year.

In a press release, Caerphilly County Borough Council said: “Driving footfall into town centres remains a key objective of these events, and this year’s festival clearly delivered.

“By attracting large crowds, these events continue to support local businesses, raise the profile of the area and encourage repeat visits.”

Sarah Harris-Clint, operator at Ffos Caerffili, said: “It was our busiest day of the year so far. It was fantastic to see so many local people and visitors in the town enjoying and supporting small businesses.

“The atmosphere was brilliant, we saw lots of smiles, singing, cheering and of course eating and drinking.

“Some of the traders at Ffos Caerffili had their best trading day since they started their business. An amazing day to showcase Caerphilly and a day to feel proud being part of it.”

The next major event in Caerphilly County Borough will be the Bargoed May Fair on Saturday May 9, which will be followed by the Caerphilly 10k and 2k runs on Sunday May 10.

Road closures confirmed for this year’s Caerphilly 10k and 2k races
