The Caerphilly-based Welsh Innovation Centre for Enterprise (Welsh ICE) has announced the appointment of its new chairman.

Steve Burt, who has been Welsh ICE’s finance director for a number of years, takes over the role from the departing Anthony Record MBE – the organisation’s founder and majority shareholder.

In his new role, Mr Burt will be tasked with overseeing the next phase of Welsh ICE’s development, with aims to expand across Wales and beyond.

He will work alongside chief executive Lesley Williams to boost the company’s training programmes and business support services.

Welsh ICE, which is based on Caerphilly Business Park, has around 700 members and offers one of the largest co-working spaces in Wales.

Earlier this month, Welsh ICE was praised by the Secretary of State for Wales, David TC Davies, during a visit to Caerphilly.

Mr Burt said he was “honoured” to become chairman and said: “This organisation holds a special place in my heart, and I am excited to contribute to its continued success.

“As we navigate the ever-changing business landscape, I am committed to fostering innovation, collaboration, inclusion and growth within the Welsh entrepreneurial community.”

Discussing his departure, Mr Record said he was filled “with immense pride” to see Welsh ICE’s “growth and evolution” over recent years.

He continued: “As I pass the torch to Steve Burt, I am confident that his leadership will steer Welsh ICE to even greater heights.

“I remain deeply committed to supporting the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Wales and beyond.”

As well as the change at the top, Welsh ICE has expanded its team with the recruitment of three training coordinators, a marketing assistant, and a finance and admin manager.

It has also got a unit at Caerphilly’s new Ffos Caerffili market, which it will use as a pop-up shop for local entrepreneurs.
