A family-run fruit and veg shop is getting ready to mark a decade serving its community.

Veg of Evans, in Ystrad Mynach, opened its doors on September 26, 2014, in the town’s Jones Arcade.

Selling fresh fruit and vegetables, milk, bakery bread, farm eggs, and a range of jams, marmalades and chutneys, the shop is run by Ystrad Mynach natives Susanne Evans and her husband Simon.

Simon’s father, Howard, can often be found on home delivery duty with Simon and staff member Carl Waters.

The firm offers free delivery to many local residents across Ystrad Mynach, Bargoed, Blackwood, Caerphilly, Pontypridd, Nelson, Ynysddu and Cwmfelinfach. It accepts health start vouchers and the Blue Light card.

During the pandemic the business stayed open and was a key lifeline to many in the community with its home deliveries.

Susanne’s mother, Jane Haytor, helped by putting vital orders together for NHS workers and the vulnerable together with granddaughter Chloe.

But it’s not just residents that Veg of Evans serves. It also supplies local restaurants, cafes, pubs, and schools.

Susanne said: “If anyone would like to enquire about wholesale supplies, including prepped veg, please get in touch.”

Since November last year it has been operating from 16 Penallta Road and is known for its charitable work in the community, raising vital funds for Velindre, Macmillan Cancer Support and many others.

You can contact Veg of Evans at Facebook.com/vegofevans or by calling the shop on 01443 858140.
