Bargoed winter fair has been cancelled

This weekend’s Bargoed Winter Food and Craft Fair has been cancelled following a Met Office weather warning.

The event was due to be held on Saturday December 7. However, Storm Darragh is forecast to hit this weekend, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall to much of Wales.

It was also called off due to bad weather last year.

Announcing this year’s cancellation, Bargoed Town Council said: “We have been in close contact with suppliers, Met Office, emergency planning and various weather forecasters throughout the week but unfortunately the forecast has now developed into a storm system called Storm Darragh.”

The statement continued: “Based on this information, we have no option but to cancel the event, as safety is paramount to the organisation of all our events and in order to give traders, suppliers and visitors adequate time to rearrange their plans.

“Next year, Bargoed will be host to a fantastic events programme – so watch this space. Please remember to support Bargoed town centre in the lead up to Christmas; the businesses were looking forward to the increased footfall the winter fair brings.”

It is the second winter fair to be cancelled in Caerphilly County Borough due to bad weather this year; Blackwood’s winter fair was called off on November 23 due to Storm Bert.
