Gerwyn Price has praised the “unbelievable support” he received at the World Darts Championship following his quarter-final exit.

2021 world champion Price, from Markham, was knocked out of the competition following a 5-3 defeat by Chris Dobey on New Year’s Day.

Price took a two-set lead over Dobey but fell 4-2 behind after losing four consecutive sets. Price then pulled one back, but Dobey won his fifth set to seal the result.

Posting on Instagram following the defeat, Price said: “Unbelievable support all the way through the event, gutted to lose but it’s my own fault.

“Good luck to everyone left in [the competition], the only way is up.”

Meanwhile, Dobey said following the match: “This is a massive achievement in my career. It’s the most nervous I’ve ever felt throwing to try and win a match, but I’m delighted to be sat here now looking forward to the semi-final.”

Dobey will play Michael van Gerwen in the semi-finals on Thursday January 2, while Stephen Bunting and Luke Littler face off in the other semi-final.

The final will be played on Friday January 3.
