Gerwyn Price was beaten in the final on a dramatic night of Premier League Darts action in Berlin.

Price, from Markham, was denied a third Premier League win of the year by Stephen Bunting – who hadn’t won a single game in this year’s tournament before heading to the German capital on Thursday April 3.

Bunting brushed past Nathan Aspinall and Luke Humphries en route to the Night 9 final, but Price’s path was less conventional.

The Iceman had been due to face Michael van Gerwen in the opener, but the Dutchman pulled out with a shoulder injury – giving Price a bye into the semi-finals.

There, he faced Chris Dobey – who had just earned a stunning 6-2 quarter-final victory over the in-form league leader Luke Littler.

But Price hit the ground running and produced a dominant display, beating Dobey 6-2 to reach his third Premier League final of the year.

However, the final was a tense contest, with both players missing big chances. Neither Price nor Bunting held their throw for the opening six legs to leave things all square at 3-3.

Price looked to be in the ascendancy as he broke again to move within a leg of a third nightly win, but he then squandered two match darts to allow Bunting back in at 5-5.

The Liverpudlian then produced a moment of brilliance as he landed a 107 checkout in the last-leg decider to secure the Night 9 title and breath new life into his play-off ambitions.

While Bunting remains at the foot of the standings, Price moves up to third.

The Premier League continues on Thursday April 10 in Manchester, with Littler waiting for Price in the opening round.

But before that, Price will remain in Germany for the International Darts Open this weekend

He will face Mike De Decker or Daniel Klose in the second round on Saturday evening. The competition, which is being held in the eastern city of Riesa, will conclude on Sunday.
