New YYFM hospital radio drama a ‘bridge’ between the generations

An Alzheimer’s singing group has joined primary school pupils to record a powerful new drama for hospital radio station Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr FM.

Pupils from Hengoed Primary School, members of Singing for the Brain, a project run by the Alzheimer’s Society, and volunteers from YYFM, created a story based around intergenerational connection.

The story they created begins with an older gentleman sitting alone on a bench, seemingly confused and unsure of his surroundings.

Three children come across him during a walk and gently ask if he’s okay. From this small act of kindness, a touching journey unfolds – one that explores memory, empathy, and the simple beauty of human connection across generations.

Lynne Williams, a volunteer with YYFM, said: “We couldn’t be prouder of everyone involved. This collaboration not only produced a beautiful piece of radio drama, it reminded us of all that when generations come together, something truly special can happen.”

The new drama will have its first airing at an event at Fleur De Lys RFC next month before becoming available to listen on-demand on YYFM’s website.
