A former butcher’s shop in Pengam can be converted into holiday accommodation, council planners have decided.
Applicant Paul Spiller has proposed transforming the vacant unit at 2 Cardiff Road, Glan y Nant, into a new Airbnb-style holiday let, with the current shop front redesigned.
According to a Caerphilly County Borough Council planning report, the proposal will allow the premises to be used for short-term lettings for stays of up to 31 days.
The officers described the proposal for the new shop front as “not traditional” but agreed the use of the building for accommodation was not expected to cause any “significant” noise or disruption, overbearing impact or loss of privacy for neighbours.
They also noted there were no objections raised during a recent public consultation period.
Plans show the ground floor of the property would be reconfigured to include an open-plan kitchen and living room, with a bedroom and bathroom upstairs.
An existing flat on the upper floor is not included in the conversion plans.
The council officers granted planning permission for the project, subject to several conditions including that the new accommodation use is for short-term lets only.
