The Sporting memories club is starting back at Caerphilly RFC

A charity bringing former sports players together is relaunching its free weekly sessions at Caerphilly Rugby Club.

Sporting Memories Wales first launched its Caerphilly club in 2024, in a bid to support the mental and physical wellbeing of former sports players in the area.

The club is aimed at those over 50, with sessions consisting of quizzes or activities, as well as everyone reminiscing about their playing days.

It also supports those living with dementia, depression, or facing isolation and loneliness.

The weekly sessions will resume on Friday April 10, and will be held every Friday morning.

Sporting Memories currently has more than 20 clubs running across Wales. Project coordinator Rob Baker said: “Sporting Memories is ready to get back up and running and we’d love people from across Caerphilly to join us at the rugby club.

“It’s free to come along and try and you don’t have to love sport to join us.”

He added: “The spirit and camaraderie developed in our clubs across Wales is something we’re really proud of and we believe that the people of Caerphilly will love Sporting Memories once they come along to a session.”
