The Wales Green Party are ready to be “kingmakers” at this year’s Senedd election, its leader Anthony Slaughter said as the party launched its campaign.
The party currently has no Senedd Members, but some polling suggests they could win enough seats to potentially prop up a minority government.
Speaking before the campaign launch in Cardiff on Tuesday March 31, Mr Slaughter said: “The polls are saying that we will hold the balance of power in the Senedd after the election.
“A strong Green vote will help keep Reform’s presence in government to a minimum, and make sure the next Welsh Government is focused on cutting living costs, fixing the housing crisis, and repairing our NHS.”
He was joined at the launch by England and Wales party leader Zack Polanski – who was recently buoyed by his party’s win in the Gorton and Denton by-election in Greater Manchester.

Mr Polanski said: “Wales Greens look set to achieve incredible things in this election. Our decisive result in the Gorton and Denton by-election shows that Greens can win anywhere, and when we mobilise, we can achieve amazing results.”
The party said its priorities are to freeze rents, replace council tax, lower bus fares, and to take back control of water.
Tessa Marshall, who is one of the candidates standing for the Greens in the Caerdydd Penarth constituency, described the upcoming election as “crucial” and said: “From bringing costs down, saving our rivers and natural world, to delivering a new future for Wales, Greens know we need to deliver.
“I’ll be fighting to make a difference, stop Reform in their tracks, and hold power to account, so in four years we’re not in the same position we’re in today.”
