TGJones in Caerphilly’s Castle Court Shopping Centre

The Post Office is set to maintain its presence in Caerphilly town centre, despite the impending closure of its branch inside the TGJones store.

The TGJones store, formerly WHSmith, is set to close by August, with the post office upstairs set to shut on July 18 as a result.

While a new site has not yet been found, the Post Office has posted an advert seeking applicants to run the new branch.

Caerphilly’s Labour MP Chris Evans and Caerphilly Council leader Jamie Pritchard met with Post Office representatives following the closure announcement, and were reassured a new branch will open in the town centre.

Caerphilly town to lose post office with TGJones closure

“While the closure of the post office at its current location is disappointing, it is very reassuring that a new branch will be opening as soon as possible,” said Mr. Evans.

“Post offices are a vital part of our communities, and I will be doing everything I can to work with the Post Office and the council to ensure a new site is found quickly.”

Cllr Pritchard welcomed the “positive” news and said: “I and the council will be working very closely with the Post Office to make sure this happens quickly and with minimal disruption.”
