FC Caerffili U14s won the South Wales FA Cup final

FC Caerffili’s U14s have become the first team from the Taff and Ely Rhymney Valley (TERV) League to win the South Wales FA Cup.

The young side secured their place in the history books with a superb 3-1 victory over Penarth Town in the final, held in Bridgend, becoming the first TERV team to lift the trophy at this age level.

A brace from Connor Williams, along with goals from Ashton Rees-Rowe and substitute Sam Window, helped FC Caerffili overcome their opponents during an action-packed finals weekend at the home of Cymru Premier side Penybont.

Founded in 2017, FC Caerffili has developed an impressive youth set-up, boasting 12 junior teams, with ambitions to establish its first senior side in the near future.

Despite currently sitting second in the Taff Division Junior League, FC Caerffili have enjoyed an outstanding season, winning two domestic cup competitions. Their only disappointment came in the final of the TERV Junior Plate, where they were beaten by league leaders Llantwit Fardre.

The squad quickly gained revenge, however, defeating Llantwit Fardre 3-0 in the TERV Junior Cup final at Ystrad Mynach’s Centre for Sporting Excellence – just three days after their South Wales Cup triumph.

FC Caerffili made a flying start, taking a 2-0 lead into half-time thanks to goals from Jamie Arthur and Connor Williams, who had also scored twice in the South Wales Cup final.

Rhodri Tucker added a third goal to seal victory as FC Caerffili lifted the Junior Cup in front of a bumper crowd.

U14s coach Chris Walkley praised his players’ performances throughout the season, highlighting their resilience, commitment and togetherness.
