Members of the Royal British Legion, Islwyn Mp Don Touhig and Islwyn AM Irene James visited Pontllanfraith Primary School for a special Remembrance service assembly.

During the service poppy wreaths were laid on a school memorial. After the Last Post was played, the Royal British Legion Standard was dipped and the whole school observed a minute silence.

After the service the pupils were given the opportunity to talk to members of the Royal British Legion about their work.

Mr Touhig, who addressed the children about the significance of the wearing of a poppy said: “I was honoured to be asked to attend the special assembly at Pontllanfraith Primary School.

“You could just see the effect that the service had on the children.

“Remembrance Day is always a special occasion in Islwyn. It is important that the pupils know of its significance.”
