Emma Jones, 24, was found in an apartment at the international school where she taught English by a flatmate but died before paramedics arrived.
Mum Louise Rowlands, 41, said her daughter’s post-mortem did not reveal how she died.
Mrs Rowlands, 41, said: “My daughter went out there alive and came back dead.
“It’s difficult for us not knowing exactly what happened. I want answers.”
Ms Jones, an ex-Bedwas High pupil, moved to Abu Dhabi after graduating in sociology.
She said her daughter enjoyed her job, “loved the kids and they loved her. She used to give them medals and stars”.
A keen traveller, Ms Jones visited Thailand, France and Nigeria, and was planning a trip to Japan next year.
“She wanted to travel and she was a people person. She didn’t want to stay in Wales,” Mrs Rowlands said. “One of her sayings was, ‘There are sayers and doers’. She was a doer.”
Mrs Rowlands, a full-time carer who last saw her daughter three months ago, is raising money in her memory to benefit three schools in South Africa.
An inquest into the young teacher’s death has been opened by Cardiff coroner Mary Hassell, who was told the cause of Emma’s death was “unascertained”.
The hearing was adjourned.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: “I can confirm the death of a British national in Abu Dhabi.
“We are providing consular assistance to her family.”
