Beware of fake taxis in Caerphilly this Christmas

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 09:42, Friday December 4th, 2009.

Christmas party-goers are being urged to check the cab they get into to go home is real.

Caerphilly County Borough Council and the Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership have sent out the warning because of the swelling numbers of unlicensed illegal cabs at this time of year.

Those taking a taxi or private hire vehicle should look out for the vehicle licence plate on the rear bumper and the driver’s identification badge to ensure it is legitimate.

Posters and flyers are currently being distributed to pubs, clubs, restaurants, take-aways and other late night venues highlighting the dangers of using an unlicensed taxi.

Councillor Lyn Ackerman said: “As tempting as it may be to get into the first taxi available at the end of a night out, I cannot stress enough how important it is to check that the taxi is fully licensed first.

“There are a number of ways to check that the taxi you are getting into is licensed, and by dong so it means that residents and visitors to our county borough this festive season can enjoy themselves safe in the knowledge that they will get home safe and sound.”
