Man in court charged with raping Llanbradach girl, 11

A 19-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the rape of an 11-year girl in Llanbradach Park.

Joseph Rees, 19, of Llantwit Fardre, Pontypridd, spoke only to confirm his name at Newport Magistrates’ Court this morning.

The attack happened in Llanbradach Park, near the library, on Monday January 4 at noon after the girl, who was off school through an inset day, was grabbed into some woods as she walked home.

Gwent Police said the girl, who cannot be named because of legal restrictions, was coping well after suffering “a very traumatic experience” and was receiving support from specially trained officers.

Rees was remanded in custody and will appear at Caerphilly Magistrates’ Court on January 18.
