Work to begin on A469 Llanbradach bypass

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:00, Thursday January 14th, 2010.

Work is due to begin on the next phase of a major road improvement scheme aimed at cutting congestion in Ystrad Mynach.

The first phase of the work, an access bridge from the A469 to the new Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr site, was completed at the end of last year.

The next thing to be built will be a dedicated slip road which will provide a direct link from the A469 Llanbradach bypass to the A472 into Maesycwmmer.

This will ease congestion at the roundabout at the top of the dual carriageway, near the New Cottage dance centre, and will improve access to the hospital site.

In order to allow the works to start later this year, a number of trees will need to be removed over the next few weeks.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has said it is keen to minimise any disturbance to wildlife, so will clear the trees before the bird nesting season starts.

The council would like to remind motorists that there is a 40mph speed limit in the area and that additional off-peak temporary traffic lights will be needed to undertake the tree clearance.
