Caerphilly MP Wayne David has organised a public meeting on Sunday to discuss how the community can pull together to help fundraise for the people of Haiti.

The meeting is being held at 2.30pm, on Sunday January 23 at the Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen Community Council Offices, in Newport Road, Bedwas.

Mr David has written to a wide range of organisations within his constituency from Bargoed down to Caerphilly about the earthquake which has claimed thousands of lives.

In his letter to the community organisations, Mr David said: “The earthquake in Haiti has led to the deaths of thousands upon thousands of people, and the horrendous death toll could rise substantially if the international community does not put in place a programme of practical assistance.”

Mr David said that he is mindful that many people have already contributed to the Haiti appeal, but believes a distinct “local” campaign could be extremely worthwhile.

The Labour MP plans to fundraise himself with a sponsored walk along the River Rhymney.
