Students at Cwmcarn High School were given the opportunity to quiz local MP Don Touhig when he recently visited the school to talk about his work in Parliament.

Following a wide ranging speech in front of 100 pupils, Mr Touhig answered questions about a series of issues including Iraq, the NHS, the Labour Party, the General Election, school funding and MPs expenses.

Mr Touhig said: “I was delighted to come to the school. We had a wide ranging discussion which was both interesting and informative – they were not afraid to ask difficult questions.

“Anyone who thinks that young people are not interested in politics could not be more wrong. I was very impressed by the passion and enthusiasm of the pupils.”

Headteacher Jacqui Peplinski said: “We were pleased to welcome Mr Touhig to the school. The talk he gave to learners was both inspiring and engaging.”
