News | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:00, Saturday February 6th, 2010.

Gwent Police arrested 25 people in Caerphilly County Borough in a two-day operation this week as part of a wider crackdown on crime.

The breakdown is as follows:

  • Suspicion of Burglary – 1
  • Suspicion of Theft – 3
  • Suspicion of Drug offences – 1
  • Suspicion of Assault – 4
  • Suspicion of Fraud offences – 1
  • Suspicion of Criminal damage – 4
  • Outstanding fines warrants – 11

The crackdown was a high intensity, high visibility enforcement campaign by Gwent Police to find and arrest prolific offenders, known offenders and wanted people.

The activity was force-wide and involved teams of officers from the five local authority areas the force covers, Newport, Monmouthshire, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen and Caerphilly.

In total 100 people were arrested in the crackdown.

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Roberts said: “Gwent Police is determined to protect the public from harm by relentlessly pursuing criminals and ensuring that they are brought to justice.

“This two-day operation focussed specifically on identifying offenders committing the type of crimes that can most affect the everyday lives of people living and working in Gwent.

“We maintain our promise to protect and reassure the public and they can be confident that police resources and activity will focus on addressing the issues that matter most to them.”
