School pupils in Caerphilly spent two days with their local Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) and Community Safety Wardens on a litter pick.

Children from Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Caerffili collected six bags of rubbish from Virginia Park playing fields during a litter pick.

Littering is currently one of the PACT priorities for the Morgan Jones ward in Caerphilly.

PCSO Emma Taylor approached the school to help clean up some of the litter in the area in response to concerns from local residents.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Community Safety Wardens also lent a helping hand.

PCSO Taylor, said: “Local residents have told us that littering is one of the main problems in the Morgan Jones ward, so we are working to address this.

“As an Eco School, the pupils were keen to get involved and the pupils did a fantastic job.”

Gareth Hughes, Eco co-ordinator at the school, said: “As a proud green flag school, we are always keen on working in the local community.

“It was a great opportunity for our children to contribute towards keeping our locality safe and clean for themselves and others.”

  • The next PACT meeting for the Morgan Jones ward will be held on Friday February 26 at 6pm, St Catherine’s Church, in Mill Road.To report incidents of littering contact Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Public Services department on 01443 866533.
