Young football fans in Caerphilly County Borough have enjoyed a visit by a renowned sports writer.

Organised by Caerphilly’s Schools Library Service, sports writer and journalist Dan Freedman visited three schools to talk about his love of football.

Mr Freedman taled about meeting top football stars and how he became a journalist and writer after realising that his dream of making it as a professional footballer was beyond him.

He’s worked at Sky Sports, Radio 5, Arsenal FC, ITV, Channel 4 and the Daily Express before becoming FA’s Editor-In-Chief and travelling all over the world with the England Football Team.

Sian Evans, who runs the library at St Cenydd Comprehensive School, said: “It was wonderful to see the positive impact that such an inspiring author can have on a group of lads, who were gripped by a subject close to many boys’ hearts.

“We need all the help we can in stimulating our children to read more. I feel such author visits are invaluable as they can often be the springboard to getting pupils to try new books.”
