Community safety events in Aber Valley

Two community safety events are being held next week in the Aber Valley for residents aged over 50.

Pupils from St Cenydd Comprehensive School will be performing a short play, during the two events, about the dangers associated with doorstep rogue traders and bogus callers.

Gwent Police, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Community Safety Wardens and Trading Standards will also be on hand.

They will be providing important safety information, advice and tips on keeping safe, both in the home and when out and about in the community.

There will also be bingo and light refreshments.

The events will be held at:

  • Senghenydd Community Centre, Wednesday March 10, between 2pm and 4pm.
  • Nazareth Community Centre, Abertridwr, Thursday March 11, between 2pm and 4pm.

The events are being organised by the Trecenydd and Aber Valley Communities First Partnerships and have been funded by the Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership as part of the Welsh Assembly Government’s Reassurance for Older People initiative.

Councillor Lyn Ackerman, cabinet member for the environment said: “This series of events will provide an excellent opportunity to come along and find out more about safety issues, and to have a chat to various organisations about any safety related concerns people may have.”

Caerphilly Neighbourhood Sergeant Andy Elias said: “We always advise people, particularly those that are elderly and vulnerable, not to open the door to strangers. These events aim to give attendees more advice about how to reduce the risks of becoming a victim of a bogus caller or a rogue trader.”

Further events will be held during March and April in other areas of Caerphilly County Borough, including Newbridge, Bargoed and Graig-Y-Rhacca.
