Maniacal monsters, arty animals, vibrant people and crazy cartoons – it’s all in a day’s work for airbrush artist Chris Gadd who recently visited students at Coleg Gwent’s Crosskeys Campus.

The visit was under the Dynamo Project, a role-models scheme which uses inspirational people to encourage young people to turn their business ideas into a reality.

Theatrical make-up students are no strangers to design but the group recently swapped make-up brush for an airbrush as they learnt about the highly skilled techniques of airbrush painting, and thought about how they could apply some of these ideas to their own work.

Chris showed students how he develops eye-catching designs on many different surfaces including vehicles, fairground rides and tourist attractions, and even demonstrated how some of his techniques could be applied to body painting, creating a picture perfect corset on the back of a model.

Lecturer Maria Retter said: “We were delighted that Chris shared his creative and inspirational work with students.

“From broadening their artistic experience to technical knowledge, all the students took something from the session and it was fascinating to learn about the different effects that could be achieved.”
