Motorists in St Cattwg, Bargoed, should be extra vigilant after a spate of thefts from cars.
Gwent Police has said that vehicles with items left on display have been targeted – in particular around the Penpedairheol area.
PCSO Neville Davies said: “We are seeing a number of items being left on view in vehicles, particularly sat-navs.
“Please ensure that you remove any valuable items including the sat-nav suction pad. You can also consider leaving your glove box open to show that you haven’t left a sat-nav or other valuables are in there.”
Police have issued the following advice:
- Lock the vehicle and close all windows.
- Set your alarm or immobiliser, if you have one.
- Remove all items and property that are left on view, including pull-out or face-off radios.
- Remove satellite navigation devices and their holders.
- Remove the marks that are often left behind by satellite navigation holders on windscreens – this is often how thieves can tell there is one in the vehicle.
- Don’t leave your satellite navigation device in the glove compartment or under the seat – take it with you.
- Keep your keys in a safe place and never leave them in the ignition.
Anyone with information about the recent spike in car crime in the area should call the Bargoed Neighbourhood Policing Team on 02920 857 455.
