Villagers have raised more than £1,200 for the victims of the Haiti earthquake appeal.

Members of Abertridwr Community Church presented Caerphilly MP Wayne David with a cheque for £1,212 after a series of events.

Mr David said: “This large donation was raised by a craft group in the Oasis Coffee Shop called ‘Crafty Christians’ and from the sale of cakes and clothes by ladies at Abertridwr Community Church.

“A donation basket was also put in the Abertridwr Community Church and Beulah Baptist Chapel.”

Andrew Tyler, from Abertridwr Community Church, said: “The community of Abertridwr has demonstrated, once again, their readiness to support and give generously.”

Mr David would like to thank all the individuals and organisations that have and are continuing to donate to the Haiti appeal.

Last month the Labour MP helped raise more than £2,000 for the appeal by completing a 15 mile sponsored walk from Bargoed to Machen.
