A new dog training course on offer at an adult education centre in Risca is already helping to produce prize winning pooches.

Morgan, an 18-month-old Bedlington Terrier from Risca, recently won first prize in the Post Graduate Dog Category at the prestigious Crufts Dog Show.

Dog Training is a new venture for Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Adult Education Centre at Oxford House in Risca.

The classes are designed to teach owners how to achieve obedience in their pet and are run by Mike Harrhy.

Mike, a former RAF Police dog handler and instructor for 12 years, has many years experience having also served as part of the RAF Police Dog Demonstration Team.

Morgan’s owner Maria Palmer credits much of Morgan’s success to his attendance at the training classes.

She said, “Mike the dog trainer has so much experience in dog behaviour and handling. The tips he gave us really helped with Morgan’s behaviour and preparation for our visit to Crufts.”

Anyone interested in attending dog training classes or any of the many diverse and interesting classes available at Oxford House, can find out more by calling 01633 612245 or visiting www.caerphilly.gov.uk/adulteducation
